The Covered Bridge, also known as Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) goes across river Ticino in Pavia and links the historic town centre (located on the left bank of the river) and the picturesque quarter of Borgo Ticino, originally located outside the city walls. It is a peculiar 5 arcade covered bridge featuring two gateways at each end and a midway chapel. Even though the present bridge was built 1949, it is a faithful replica of the original Ponte Coperto dating back to the XIV century. It once marked the borderline between the Regno di Sardegna (Kingdom of Sardinia) and the Austrian Regno Lombardo Veneto (Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia, 1815-1859) (Pavia)
