The term Castelletto di Cuggiono is referred to a part of the municipality of Cuggiono once defining the only remarkable building in the area. Grand Clerici Palace was built along the left bank of the Naviglio Grande, probably on the remains of a pristine medieval fortress. The original complex was already mentioned in a document of 988 a.D. When the building of the Clerici Palace started, the original plan of the hamlet was completely modified but has remained unchanged ever since. The structure of the villa is rather bulky: it overlooks the naviglio (canal) from a natural hillock and features a huge block closed with courtyards with two towers used as dovecots. The grand baroque staircase leading from the Villa to the bank of the Naviglio Grande is a real masterpiece and was once used as a wharf to easily reach the Villa without walking through the hamlet.
