A plain forest strongly rooted in the territory, whose nature is alive and luxuriant, rich with farms and communities. These are the main features of the Park established to protect and preserve the natural heritage and the resources of the area. Multifarious wildlife and flora have found shelter within the Park boundaries: the European Honey Buzzard, who nests here in spring after being back from Africa; the Northern Goshawk who came back to nest here after a 100 year long absence; the Crested Tit from the mountains; the Crested Triton who lives in the lake waters; the Red Squirrel who is the real lord of the pine forests. The Scots Pine gives the landscape a hue of its own whilst the Oak is the real pillar of the forest surrounded by meadows crowded with Meadow Orchids and Dog’s Tooth Violets. The Park Forests, covering 3,500 of the overall 4,800 hectares of the park, are an important testimony of the pristine Po valley vegetation and are a fundamental naturalistic haven, a sylvan heart pounding in the middle of the urbanised plain. A sylvan heart offering oxygen and wood, filtering the waters which nourish the river, limiting the erosive action if rain and offering a secure shelter to a precious community of living creatures. A fundamental source of life in the Lombard environmental and ecological network where the commitment of managers, employees and volunteers helps finding all the necessary pieces of a composite human and naturalistic mosaic to better preserve and improve the land, the main resource for our future.
