Castiglione Olona is so rich with historic and artistic landmarks that it can be considered a rare and precious treasure chest in industrious Lombardy. Its origins date back to 401 a.D. when, according to an unusual legend, Roman General Stilicone’s troops camped in this area thus setting the roots of the present village of Castiglione lying at the bottom of the Olona valley. When the Romans left, it was the Longobards who conquered the area until, as recorded by the chroniclers, around year 1000 the area became property of a noble family, the Castiglionis. Do not miss the Collegiata (Collegiate church) and Baptistry frescoed by Masolino da Panicale, the Villa Church and Cardinal Branda Castiglioni Palace.
