Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli was born in a small simple room still displaying the Madonna painting, his parents’ bed and the one wardrobe. In the adjoining room, where his sisters used to sleep, in addition to Roncalli’s clothes, you will also see some of his furniture, especially the desk where he started to write his ‘Giornale dell’anima’ (Soul’s Diary). In the yard, a windowed corridor houses a display of pictures from Pope John XXIII’s life. At the end of the corridor you will reach the Seminary of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) where the life-size bronze statue of the Pope is venerated by the numerous pilgrims. The rooms with a display of all the witnesses and ex-votos for the grace received by people from all over the world are adjoining the Seminary church. The room filled with pink and light-blue ribbons as a sign of gratitude for a long desired pregnancy or for children’s healings is well worth a visit. Source: www.papagiovanni.com
