The Visconti castle has the typical features of 1200’s Lombard ‘Flatland Lordship Castles’: surrounded by a moat, the building was erected around a square bailey with four corner towers linked to the four two-floor blocks. The present state of the castle, which has undergone radical refurbishing in the course of the years, is so problematic that it may even be hard to spot it as such. The entrance on the western side is opposite the original gateway. The bailey is a lightly irregular square and on its sides we can still pick out the pristine gothic arcade which used to border it. The brick bridge leading to the interior of the castle was built later than the original structure.
