CANNETO DULL’OGLIO (Mantua) - For some months at least, Canneto sull’Oglio, on the border of the Provinces of Brescia, Cremona and Mantua, becomes a Dolls’ Village again: ‘Cicciobello’, the most famous Doll ever made in Italy, and other traditional Italian dolls were produced here and even though the factories are now closed, tradition revives from September 28th to january 6th with “Atelier” the third national collective artistic dolls exhibit. The Exhibit is housed at Canneto Sull’Oglio Museum, which also features Giulio Superti Furga’s Toy Collection (over 1000 dolls and toys, from the XIXth century to present days), a hundred unique specimens, carefully hand-decorated and superbly dressed, made of the most diverse materials: synthetic resins, china, wood and papier-maché. An artistic doll is to a ‘Barbie’ like a chef’s delicacy (let’s say one of the special dishes chef Nadia Santini creates at multi-awarded Cannetto-based restaurant Il Pescatore) is to pre-cooked food. Modern times doll-makers are creative and crafted artists. Each doll may require over a hundred hours of work and cost up to a few thousand euros. But Canneto offers another chance to those who love old toys with the Old and Modern Toy Exchange Fair in Piazza Gramsci where it is possible to exchange or purchase old dolls, swinging horses, metal toy soldiers etc. The Town Museum is open on Saturdays from 3 pm to 7 pm and on Sundays and Holidays from 10 to 12.30 and from 3 pm to 7 pm. Tickets: € 2.60/3.60.
